Autumn is the perfect time to clean and tidy your garden. Leaves start to fall, and plants stop growing, making it easier to prepare your garden for the next season.
Most fallen leaves and plant materials are full of nutrients. Instead of throwing them away, use them to improve your garden soil. Don’t rake everything clean—those leaves help your plants grow better.
If any plants had issues like pests or diseases (e.g., fungus or bugs), make sure to clean them up completely. Pick up the fallen leaves and branches, and put them in brown garden waste bags. Do not compost them—some pests and diseases can survive and come back next year.
If you have extra leaves, start a compost pile. Mix leaves with green waste (like dead flowers or plants) and a little garden soil. After a few months, you’ll get rich compost that’s great for your plants. Don’t add weeds with seeds—they might grow back!
